  7. solved controversy over the city's 
  8. political status.  Tourism and 
  9. pilgrimage to the city, long the 
  10. major sources of income, were 
  11. badly hurt and occasional sniper 
  12. fire made life in the neighbor-
  13. hoods along the border difficult.
